A recent car rental from Payless in Orlando makes me question this company’s business model. At time of rental I was given an “option” to take their additional collision damage waiver. Doing so would increase my rental charge by 70% and my personal insurance also covers rental cars, so I declined. I was then told that by doing so, my credit card would be charged (note: not just authorized) for an additional $350.00 on top of the rental fee, which “would be refunded in 14 days after the vehicle was returned.” I was only renting for 4 days and charging up my card potenetially would cause problems with my business travel in the next few weeks. Since the rental office is offsite and it was getting late, I succummed to their evil plot and opted to add their greedy insurance scam fee in order to get a car. I returned the vehicle (undamaged mind you) at the time i was supposed to. After contacting customer service and explaining my dissatsfaction, I received an email from the location manager stating that because I “elected” to purchase their CDW at the time of rental, I could not get a refund. if you look up the definition of “elected,” it states “to decide, especially by preference.” I had DECIDED that I PREFERRED NOT to pay extra for insurance that I already pay my auto policy carrier and credit card company for. Instead, I was forced to hand over my money so this company could use it for two weeks before giving it back to me. The irony here is that the name is “PAY LESS,” but maybe it should be “PAY MORE.” Signed, A Customer Who Will Never Use Payless Again (I probably won’t shop at Payless Shoes either )
